The Hooligans are the 2006 NCISL Invitational Tournament (Men's B) Champions!
Great turnout again this year. We started slow with a 1-0-2 record on Saturday, luckily
it was enough to win the group.
Sept 9, Hooligans 1, CGI Outsider 1.
Goal scorers: Tariq (1)
Penalty Shots: Tariq 1/1.
We had a rather weak game against this CGI team. If it wasn't for the penalty shot that was awarded to Tariq, we would have lost 1-0 on a flukey-bouncy goal that eluded several players on the way in. Fortunately Tariq's goal fired us up and we started playing much better. Keeper touched Tariq's shot, but couldn't stop it from going in. Bruno got his ribs bruised by getting sandwiched between two big opponents.
Sept 9, Hooligans 4, Mosaid 0.
Goal scorers: Tariq (2), Justin (1), Chad (1), Gilles (1).
Dominated all of this game, but it took us a little while to put some goals in. Tariq, Justin (his first goal as a Hooligan), Gilles and Chad managed to score. Steph gets a shutout, but wasn't kept very busy.
Sept 9, Hooligans 0, Saigon 0.
Goal scorers: None.
Yellow Cards: Tariq.
Steph earns his second shutout, but he had to work alot harder to get it this time. One Saigon shot even trickled passed and hit the post. Both teams got equal chances. Steph mentioned that the game was like ping pong, with teams continually carrying the ball back upfield after each play.
Sept 10, Hooligans 2, DY4 Kix 1.
Goal scorers: Phil (1), Gilles (2).
Went up 1-0, then again 2-1. Phil picks up the garbage after Tariq perfectly heads the ball off a Sean throw-in which the keeper couldn't quite get a handle on. Gilles scored the second goal very late in the game as we were trying to get ready for penalty shots. Steph attempts to pull back a throw to Phil but dropped the ball when he changed his mind once he noticed that Phil was busy trying to pick up a penny off the ground! No harm done in the end as Justin mopped up the scene.
Sept 10, Hooligans 2, Goulbourn MR4 1.
Goal scorers: Louis (1), Tri (1).
We had to dig deep for this game. Although we beat Goulbourn during the season, an early penalty shot set us back. Steph got a glove on it, and it barely went into the net. Fortunately, we have "Clutch Goal Louis" on our side. With about 5 minutes left in the game he somehow used his back to punch in one of Sean's massive throw-ins. Two goals this year, one saved our undefeated season and ultimately helped us win first place, and this one tied the game up in a tournament final. With a tied game, we then proceeded to two 5 minute extra time periods with a golden goal opportunity. Naveed was called offside on a goal early in the first extra time period. Halfway through the second overtime, Gilles picked up the ball in our own end and fired a bullet straight to Tri, who controlled the pass and chipped the ball over the charging keeper to notch the golden championship winning goal.
