Regular Season Game #8
Rideau 1, Hornets 3
Goal scorers: Andrew (7), Shawn (1) and
Jeremy (1).
Shawn:
They were a fairly young team (some of their
players were almost as young as us), and they
were fairly rough. We were relatively
disorganized this game for some reason (the long
drive?), and we were lucky to come through with
a win (we were tied for the first sixty
minutes of the game at 0-0). All the scoring
was in the second half, when we had the wind.
The game also escalated in terms of physical
play as the game wore on. Three yellow cards
(two of which added up to a red) were given to
the other team as a warning to "simmer down".
Our first goal was a lucky one, bouncing over
the goalies head as he fell and going in the net.
They tied it up shortly afterwards and played
very well for the 10 minutes or so following
that, threatening to score again. Then we had
a couple of good chances, with Andrew putting
in the second one for the game winner. After
that, I think they got the red card and played
a man short, then we scored the insurance goal.
It was a close game, closer than I think we
like!
Phil L:
Wasn't quite our best game ever, it took a
fluke goal for and an equalizer by the opposition
to really wake us up. Chad had an excellent
game, proving that team play really works, he
made a series of great passes, two of which
lead to goals, and many more to great opportunities.
We used a very defensive 2-4-4 system that proved
to be very effective, it shut down the opposition
easily for at least the first half. It's a good
thing we practiced it, we'll be able to use it
it much tougher matches.
